FAQs

What's the difference between a chocolate cake and a chocolate fudge cake? ›

Fudge cake packs a thicker, denser cake layer, a velvet departure from the more delicate, fluffy cake layers found in a chocolate cake. Think of the textural difference between a block of fudge and a block of chocolate. The chocolate melts in your mouth, while the fudge lingers with every chewy bite.

Can you just put melted chocolate on a cake? ›

Why is it called devils food? ›

There are a few theories as to how it got its name. One, it's the decadent counterpart to angel food cake. Two, it's sinfully delicious. Finally, devil's food cake came about during a time when food that was spicy, rich, or dark was described as deviled, like deviled ham and deviled eggs.

Is chocolate fudge cake unhealthy? ›

Even a from-scratch chocolate cake can have a boat load of sugar or fat. None of the ingredients in themselves are necessarily unhealthy, but some choices can have considerable impact: choosing a darker chocolate or cocoa to add the chocolate flavor, vs a milk chocolate, will cut sugar and fat.

What happens when you put melted chocolate in cake mix? ›

Adding melted chocolate to the sponge mixture gives it a fudgier texture, but you can leave this out and simply use the cocoa paste for a lighter (and cheaper) cake.

Is Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines better? ›
